Habeas Protocol Structured-Metadata Licence v1 ================================================ This licence applies to the structured-metadata files under `data/`: - data/judgments.json - data/primitives.json - data/schema.json - data/falsification_set.json - data/comparison_set.json - data/sources.md - data/tos_audit.md - data/PROVENANCE.md (and per-source provenance files) - data/sicc_stratification_plan.md - data/falsification_results.md - data/comparison_results.md - data/irr/* (sample, coder templates, README) It does NOT apply to the source judgments scraped under data/raw/. Those remain the property of the issuing court (the DIFC Courts, the ADGM Courts, and the Singapore Courts) and are NOT redistributed by this project. data/raw/ is gitignored and must not be committed. Why a custom licence rather than CC-BY-4.0 ------------------------------------------ The DIFC, ADGM, and Singapore Courts terms of use prohibit reproduction and redistribution of website content. CC-BY-4.0 expressly permits commercial redistribution by downstream users; that grant is incompatible with the source ToS. A non-commercial-research, takedown-respecting licence is the closest open-licence shape that does not exceed our underlying rights. See data/tos_audit.md for the full audit. Permitted uses -------------- You may, free of charge: 1. Read, copy, and redistribute the structured metadata for non-commercial academic research, criticism, or review. 2. Cite Maxim Labs (and reproduce attribution) when doing so. 3. Modify and build upon the structured metadata for the same non-commercial-research purpose, provided derivative works carry this licence (or are clearly labelled as not redistributable). 4. Quote short excerpts of source judgments retained in the metadata under the fair-dealing exception in your jurisdiction (Singapore Copyright Act 2021 ss 190–196; UAE Federal Decree-Law 38/2021; equivalent common-law criticism-and-review). Not permitted ------------- 1. Commercial use of the structured metadata, including any subscription, paid-API, or paid-product offering, without prior written permission from Maxim Labs AND from the rightsholder of the underlying source content (DIFC Courts / ADGM Courts / Singapore Courts as applicable). 2. Redistribution of source judgment text scraped from difccourts.ae, adgm.com, assets.adgm.com, or elitigation.sg. Source judgment text is NOT covered by this licence and is NOT in this repository. 3. Use that misrepresents the metadata as an authoritative legal determination. The artifact is a research output; reliance is research-only. Attribution ----------- When citing or redistributing under the permitted-uses clause, attribute as: Maxim Labs, "Habeas Protocol: Structured Metadata of DIFC, ADGM, and SICC Commercial Judgments," v0.2 (2026). See data/judgments.json. Disclaimer ---------- This is a research artifact. Maxim Labs does not warrant accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose. The structured metadata may diverge from the issuing court's authoritative source record; the source record governs. Maxim Labs is not engaged in the practice of law in any jurisdiction. Takedown -------- Rightsholders, registrars, or named individuals who wish disputed content removed: see TAKEDOWN.md. Disputed material is removed within 7 days pending verification. Changes to this licence ----------------------- Versioned. The version that applies to a given derivative work is the version in force at the time of redistribution. Changes are recorded in CHANGELOG entries on the repository.
